Strength Training Excuses

So many people are concerned with how strength training will impact their body shape. Most common excuses for avoiding strength training are:

1. I don't want to get big and bulky.
2. I need to lose weight and burn more calories.
3. (from women) I don't want to get "manly".

Turkey Mountain

Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness is a rarity in Middle America. It’s not really a “mountain” but instead some rugged, wooded ridges. This area was set aside by the city and a charitable trust for the purpose of keeping the natural environment of the area free from commercial or residential development. It’s turned into Tulsa's top destination for trail runners, mountain bikers, horseback riders, and anyone else just wanting to get away in the woods for awhile. I run year round, so I’ve seen Turkey Mountain in its various seasonal aspects.

Let The Games Begin!!!! WTF???

Amazing! I'm so excited that they added a sprint triathlon.

Castro explained the first event of the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games would be a swim, bike, run event at Camp Pendleton. The race starts with a 700-meter ocean swim with fins, followed by an 8-kilometer bike ride across undulating terrain and soft sand, and finishes with a 11.3-kilometer run across steep hills and more than 427 meters of elevation gain.

Riding The Trails

I had forgotten how riding really good, technical mountain bike trails can give you one hell of a workout.

Dual Training

October is my favorite time of year because of many reasons. Mainly because of the perfect Fall weather and Football. I've been riding my bike almost everyday 7-10 miles since I got it. I have put over 200 miles on my new bike in a short time. I have been doing track work(running) and running to Yoga lately. It's that time of year again for the 15k Tulsa run. Yesterday I ran 4 miles on Riverside in 31:52. Then I rode my bike 6.7 miles in 26 minutes. Back to Back! Endurance

What do you do for your endurance?

My new ride

It's a very impressive bike. Handles like a 26er, but has the sure-footedness of a 29er (shorter wheelbase, G2, front thru-axle). The Active Braking Pivot REALLY WORKS! It's like the anti-lock brakes of mountain biking. Just sit forward on the saddle and the RumbleFish will climb ANYTHING! The bike has great climbing ability, plus unreal downhill speed and control. All-in-all, it's everything I've ever wanted in a mountain bike.

Adventure Race 3:39:04

What a great race day, cool and rainy. We ended up running a 5 mile trail run. Then we went into the YMCA and did some skill work like 50 jump ropes, 10 push-ups, crab walk across gym, and some other crazy stuff. Keegan shoot a basketball and rode a tricycle. Then we hopped on our bikes and rode back through Turkey Mountain. Then we took the River Trail down to 21st area. We got into canoes and paddled 3 miles on the River. We then had to complete a word puzzle. We finished biking back to Turkey. I flipped my bike on a 2 1/2 foot drop off. No injuries. We had to find 23 check points along the way. Keegan and I now have 2 adventure races under our belts.

Adventure Race (SPRINT)

This Sunday Oct 4, 2009 my friend Keegan and I are going to participate in a local adventure race. This will be our second adventure race this year. The first one was in February in the Lake of the Ozarks. We came in 4th place with a 4 all male team. There will be 6-10 miles of trail & River Trail running/trekking, 15-20 miles of trail and River Trail biking, 1-3 miles of river canoeing. Teams will consist of 2 person Coed, All Male, or All Female. Expected race length should be 3-5 hours. Each team will receive a map with directions for the course. Along with the map, the running and biking course on Turkey Mountain will be clearly marked.
