Strict Shoulder Press
The Overhead Press is a full body, compound exercise. Your shoulders and arms press the weight over your head while your legs, lower back and abs balance you. The Overhead Press is one of the best exercises to build strong, muscular and healthy shoulders with bigger arms.

Downtown Duel #3 (The CrossFit Total)
Saturday, October 10th 2015 (4:00-7:00PM)
The CrossFit Total is the sum of the best lift of each of the following; the Back Squat, the Strict Press, and the Deadlift, in that order. Athletes will be given 30 minutes at each lift, with a 30 minute rest before moving on to their next lift. (ex. Athlete has 30 minutes to Back Squat, 30 minutes to rest, 30 minutes to Strict Press, 30 minutes to rest, 30 minutes to Deadlift).

The Shoulder Press
The shoulder press is excellent for developing upper body strength and developing the power zone. The power zone includes the hip flexors, hip extensors, spinal erectors, and quadriceps. Developing power from the core to these extremities (the power zone) is a fundamental skill needed for athletic success.
A common fault I see with the shoulder press is not fully extending the elbows out at the top and the arms not fully pressing out.

CrossFit Total
On Friday night @ Barbells and Bass there was a lifting competition that I entered. The CrossFit Total is the sum of the best of three attempts at the squat, the press, and the deadlift. All three lifts are done while standing on the floor.
Back Squat 1RM @ 450
Shoulder Press 1RM @ 245
Deadlift 1RM @ 550
CrossFit Total = 1245
1st Place Finish

THE BASICS Press-Squat-Deadlift
It has been said that the lost secrets of strength and development can be found through hard and heavy basic movements. The basics can be simple to learn, but never easy to perform if done with proper technique and intensity. There are far too many programs with too many bells and whistles that have no place in most trainees programs. Pure and simple, basics work. Following a unique program for the sake of being different will likely get you little results or even injured. Especially as a novice trainee, nothing could be worse than training with too much variety, or too many variables to screw around with.
