Open Movements

What movements will I need to do?
Good question. While the Games have used a total of 51 different movements in the past, the Open is testing a much smaller skill set. There have only been a total of 14 movements used in the Open in the past four yr and 10 of those have been used every year since the Open started in 2011. Below is a breakdown of the movements that have been used in the Open in the past, and thus the movements you can expect this year. The table shows the percentage of the total point value that each movement was worth each year, along with an estimate of how much they'll be worth this year. The projection for this year takes all three years into account but gives more weight to the more recent years.

There will ALWAYS be someone better

Competition is natural and can be seen almost anywhere in nature. On top of that, humans (some would argue) are the only species that is "self aware". This awareness leads many to feel a need to be important, or to matter in the grand scheme of things. People look for areas that they can demonstrate their "specialness". Some are fast, some are strong, some are smart...The list is only limited by the imagination. Any time you find a person who claims to be good at something, you will soon find another person who claims to be better. So, humans have taken competition to another level because of egos.

'Battle at the Ballpark' to pit CrossFit-affiliated teams against each other at ONEOK Field

Posted: Sunday, September 14, 2014 12:00 am

The Tulsa Drillers and CrossFit T-Town have teamed up to bring a fitness competition to ONEOK Field next weekend.
A total of 90 teams, composed of two males and two females, will compete in the inaugural “Battle at the Ballpark” in three different divisions (Prescribed, Scaled and Masters) on Friday and Saturday.
The games are a test of physical fitness and a grueling multi-day competition in which some of the world’s fittest athletes compete in a variety of workouts.
Proceeds from “Battle at the Ballpark” will benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation.
“They will be competing for $10,000 in cash and prizes,” said Rob Gardenhire, director of marketing and business development for the Drillers. “We are benefiting Folds of Honor Foundation.
“Our goal is to raise $10,000 to fund scholarships for the two sons of local hero LaGrand Strickland. … LaGrand is a local hero from Owasso who lost both of his legs in Pakistan.”
The two-day event takes place Friday evening and all-day Saturday.
“They will have two WODs (Workout of the Day) on Friday night from 6 to 9 p.m. with gates opening at 5,” Gardenhire said of the format. “On Saturday they will have another two WODs — one in the morning and one in the afternoon. After that the field will be cut to 10 finalists in each division.
“The finals will be around 4 on Saturday and will feature 10 prescribed, 10 scaled and 10 masters teams. They will have one final WOD for the championship later that evening,” he said.
“This will be Tulsa’s largest event. With our venue, the athletes will have amenities they have not had" at similar events.
The competition will take place along the baselines of ONEOK Field.
“There will be a rack where second base is on the dirt and will be used for pull-ups and other exercises,” Gardenhire said. “There will be five platforms on either side of that. We will run 10 teams at a time when we have a heat.
“All the WODs are timed and will have a number of different exercises in each one.”
Other activities are also planned.
“We will have sponsor booths, and Friday night we will be doing the Bob Hurley Truck Pull,” Gardenhire said. “Teams can enter for $5, and they can push a truck for 40 yards for time. The winning team will get half of the pot and the other half will go to Folds of Honor.
“We will also have a fireworks show on Friday.”
Gardenhire expects to see this event grow each year.
“This first year we wanted to do a two-day event,” he said. “Moving forward we could see this being a three-day event. We think this is just the beginning.”
