The Open is the first stage of the CrossFit Games season and the largest community event of the year. Every year, hundreds of thousands of athletes come together to compete in the worldwide, online competition.
Anyone aged 14 or older can compete in the Open. All you have to do is sign up at Games.CrossFit.com and log your score each week. Workouts are released on Thursdays at 5 p.m. PT, and athletes have four days to complete the workout for the week and submit their score. Scores are due before 5 p.m. PT the following Monday. Complete the workouts at a CrossFit affiliate with a judge, or film your effort from anywhere in the world and submit a link as proof.
Since 2015, the Open has offered a scaled option in addition to the prescribed workout. This option makes the all-inclusive event even more accessible to the masses.
At the end of five weeks, the fittest move on to the next stages of competition: The Regionals and The Online Qualifier.

Sign up for $20, do the workouts, enter your scores, and you will be ranked in relation to your peers in your age division, competition region, state and country.
Workouts are released online each Thursday and athletes have until the following Monday to submit their scores.
It all starts February 25, 2016.

CrossFit Open WOD 15.5

7:32

Workout 15.5

27-21-15-9 reps for time of:
Row (calories)
Thrusters
Men use 95 lb.
Women use 65 lb.

Notes
This workout begins seated on the rower with the monitor set to zero calories. At the call of “3-2-1 … go,” the athlete will grab the handle and begin rowing. Once you have rowed 27 calories you will move to the barbell for 27 thrusters, then back to the rower for the round of 21, and so forth. Each time you return to the rower you or your judge must reset the monitor to zero before rowing.
Every second counts in this workout. Your score will be the time it takes to complete all 144 repetitions. There is no time cap for this workout.
This workout ends when the final rep of the thruster is locked out overhead. Time will be recorded in full seconds. Do not round up. If you finish in 9:25.7, your score is 9:25.

CrossFit Open WOD 15.4

90 REPS

Workout 15.4

Complete as many reps as possible in 8 minutes of:
3 handstand push-ups
3 cleans
6 handstand push-ups
3 cleans
9 handstand push-ups
3 cleans
12 handstand push-ups
6 cleans
15 handstand push-ups

21 handstand push-ups
9 cleans
Etc., adding 3 reps to the handstand push-up each round, and 3 reps to the clean every 3 rounds.
Men clean 185 lb.
Women clean 125 lb.

Notes
Prior to starting this workout each athlete will need to stand against the wall and measure and mark their foot line for the handstand push-ups (details to the left). At the call of “3-2-1 … go,” the athlete will kick up into a handstand and perform handstand push-ups. Once 3 handstand push-up reps are complete they will move to the barbell for 3 cleans, then back to the wall for 6 handstand push-ups, then 3 cleans, etc. Each round, the number of repetitions of the handstand push-ups will increase by 3. After every 3 rounds, the number of clean reps will increase by 3. Athletes will continue following this pattern for as many reps as possible within the 8 minutes.
Your score will be the total number of repetitions completed before the 8-minute time cap.

NO REP

No repping someone is not enjoyable! We’ve all seen videos or heard someone complain about getting no repped. Also Bro repping is one of the biggest flaws in the Open. Dan Bailey (aka Danny Broflex) and the Games site even put out a video mocking or warning against “bro reps,” which is basically giving your buddy reps even when they don’t meet the standards.

The CF Open Seperates Athletes

The 2015 CrossFit Open has become too big for itself. Having said that, I do think with the way Crossfit is going, we are looking more at the opportunity of seeing the sport grow into a professionalized sport. This means that there will be full time pros who DO NOT need to go through the Open. They will be part of the professionalized sport of Crossfit which will have 5 professional only events annually in different cities geographically with a 6th culmination event known as "the Open". The Open can then keep it's format by being just that, an Open competition and call to anyone who wants to participate in this tournament. In this way, Crossfit takes on a Cup Competition model that exists in soccer in European nations. You have your rogue underdog going up against the big professionals.

Open Movements

What movements will I need to do?
Good question. While the Games have used a total of 51 different movements in the past, the Open is testing a much smaller skill set. There have only been a total of 14 movements used in the Open in the past four yr and 10 of those have been used every year since the Open started in 2011. Below is a breakdown of the movements that have been used in the Open in the past, and thus the movements you can expect this year. The table shows the percentage of the total point value that each movement was worth each year, along with an estimate of how much they'll be worth this year. The projection for this year takes all three years into account but gives more weight to the more recent years.

There will ALWAYS be someone better

Competition is natural and can be seen almost anywhere in nature. On top of that, humans (some would argue) are the only species that is "self aware". This awareness leads many to feel a need to be important, or to matter in the grand scheme of things. People look for areas that they can demonstrate their "specialness". Some are fast, some are strong, some are smart...The list is only limited by the imagination. Any time you find a person who claims to be good at something, you will soon find another person who claims to be better. So, humans have taken competition to another level because of egos.

CrosssFit Open Region Changes

To advance to the next stage of the CrossFit Games season—regionals—athletes must finish the Open near the top of their region's Leaderboard.
Only 20 men, 20 women, and 15 teams from U.S. and Canadian regions will advance to their regionals. These numbers grown to 30, 30, and 20 for Europe and Australia, and shrink to 10, 10 and 10 for Latin America, Asia and Africa.
At regionals, top athletes from two to three regions will compete side by side.

Weekend 1: May 15-17
South West, South Central and Latin America → South Regional
Mid Atlantic and South East Regions → Atlantic Regional

Weekend 2: May 22-24
NorCal and SoCal Regions → California Regional
Canada East and North East Regions → East Regional
Australia and Asia Regions → Pacific Regional

Weekend 3: May 29-31
Canada West and North West Regions → West Regional
North Central and Central East Regions → Central Regional
Europe and Africa Regions → Meridian Regional

The top five men, five women and five teams at the end of each three-day regional competition will receive invitations to the CrossFit Games at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

CrossFit Open 2015

The CrossFit Games stand alone as the ultimate test of fitness. No test, regardless of its lofty claims, can grant legitimate title to the best without first providing access to all.
The 2015 Reebok CrossFit Games season begins with the online Open. Anyone can sign up to compete in five workouts over five weeks and post their scores online. Last year, the Open reached more than 209,000 athletes from around the world.
You can either perform the Open workout at a participating CrossFit affiliate where you will be judged in person, or you can film your full performance and upload it to YouTube or another video-sharing site. The video will be displayed alongside your score so other CrossFit athletes can be your judge.

You are free to make as many attempts at the Open workout as you please. Your only limit is time. You have four days—96 hours—to complete the week's workout and submit your best score to the Games site. The week's workout is released each Thursday at 5 p.m. PT, and scores are due the following Monday at 5 p.m. PT.

The 2015 Open begins on Thursday, Feb. 26. That evening, tune into the live Open announcement show streamed to Games.CrossFit.com. Director of the Games Dave Castro will announce Open Workout 15.1 and moments later top Games athletes will complete that workout going head to head.
Athletes will submit their scores throughout the weekend. The hard deadline for score submissions is 5 p.m. PT on Monday, March 2. Don't be late!

15.1: Feb. 26 -March 2
15.2: March 5-9
15.3: March 12-16
15.4: March 19-23
15.5: March 26-30

No Regrets

My coach Okie once told me, “the leaderboard doesn’t care”, and it’s true. You don’t get to put an asterisk next to your score and then a note at the bottom of the screen that says, “I didn’t get enough sleep the night before,” or, “I didn’t eat enough today.” The leaderboard doesn’t care, no one does. Do everything that you can now, today, this week to prepare for every aspect of the Open workouts. One rep matters in the Open. In many cases that one extra pull-up or one extra muscle up has made the difference for athletes qualifying for Regionals. You are working hard in the gym right now to do the best you can, work hard putting the other pieces together and have no regrets.

Set Your Training Time

What time of day do you work out best? Do you love waking up and heading right to the gym before anything can distract you from your workout? Is afternoon training your favorite? Or maybe you love to train in the evening when all of your other responsibilities are done for the day. Find this time now and stick to it during the Open. This is another way your mind preps your body for a workout. If you train every day at 6pm, the Open is not the time to take a day off from work and train at 1pm. Your mind is not ready, your body is not ready. You have trained both for months that they are tested later in the day. This is not the time to change that!

Box Jump Tips

  1. Minimize your time on the ground - utilizing the elasticity of your calves and Achilles to get you back up on the box (keep your core tight, not the quads or the hammies)
  2. The rest is at the TOP of the box

Deadlift Tips

Tips

  • Back straight –Do not round your back
  • Full Rep - Return the bar to the ground before doing another repetition
  • Make sure you are bending your legs and using your leg muscles as you lift. You shouldn’t be lifting the weight just with your lower back
  • Keep the bar close to your legs on the way up and down
