TRIATHLON COURSE DESCRIPTION

The St. John Annual Indoor Sprint Triathlon is featuring a 500-yard swim, 8-mile bike and 3-mile run.

Swim – the pool is 25 yards in length and has four lanes. All swimmers will share a lane; two per lane, eight racers per heat. Heats will start every 25 minutes, and swimmers will be grouped by swim time. A volunteer will be assigned to each swimmer to count laps. After 10 laps have been completed, the racers will be directed towards the transition area located on the second floor.
Transition – all racers will have the opportunity to set-up in transition area and set up their bike prior to the start of their heat if time allows. Racers may enter the transition or bike area only when instructed to do so by the transition captain. All racers must use the transition area. Failure to comply with this rule will result in race disqualification. Limit what you bring into the transition area and take only the essentials (shirts, shoes, socks, iPod), as this will decrease your
transition time.

Bike – stationary upright bikes will be used for the second leg of the race. A volunteer will be assigned to all racers to help track mileage and for general assistance. Racers will be directed to the track once eight miles have been completed.

Run – the track has three lane (inside lane for faster runners, outside for slower runners and walkers) and is slightly raised on the corners. Volunteers will be assigned to all racers to count the 36 laps needed to complete the race. If you plan to wear headphones or listen to music during the run, please be aware of the last 2 laps as you will be directed to the finish line by volunteers.
