Travel Fitness Tips

Hi Chad,

I came across your blog and really enjoyed reading it. I am wondering if you're interested in featuring an article from me on your blog because I recently have been looking into how fitness and eating healthy can specifically benefit frequent travelers and those on vacation. I believe the article attached will really help your readers understand the benefits of fitness and healthy eating while traveling and why it can be so important .

Traveling is a welcome opportunity to escape the stress of everyday life. Visiting new places and engaging in fresh activities can awaken the mind and spirit. But there are also some possible drawbacks that you need to be aware of. Keeping these in mind will help you avoid some common pitfalls people encounter when traveling.

One of these pitfalls is the tendency to completely forget about the fitness routine you adhered to when you were back home. Here are a few tips to keep you on track in terms of fitness on your trip.

Look for hotels with exercise offerings

You should be able to find a hotel that offers a gym or exercise equipment for the use of its guests. Doing a little research goes a long way. On a recent vacation to Maui I was able to not only run on the beach and swim in the ocean, but also get my customary early morning workout in because I looked through a list of Maui hotels on a travel reviews site. After booking such a hotel, plan to set aside some time each day for your usual workout. This will allow you to burn off any extra calories you may be consuming while eating out, and also keep up your energy level so you can get the most out of your trip.

If the hotel does not have a gym, there are some alternative ways to get in some needed exercise. You can bring some equipment with you. For example, you could bring a pull-up bar. This bar can be mounted inside any doorway, such as a closet. When you leave, you take it back with you.

You can also get in some aerobics inside or outside your own room by jumping rope, doing jumping jacks, push-ups, etc. Walk the stairs instead of taking the elevator.

Many hotels have some great walking trails nearby. Inquire about these. Most hotel staff is familiar with the surrounding area and can give you some good recommendations.

If the hotel has no way for you to exercise, you can often make arrangements to visit a local gym. Many people who travel have a favorite gym they visit when they are in town. Start scouting out locations before leaving on your trip.

Airports

The travel industry is really starting to cater to the needs of the health conscious person. This is done by giving people health food options within terminals and also giving the option of working out on your layover. This is an awesome trend not only for the travel industry, but also for the health conscious individual and hopefully it will spread across many other verticals.

  1. If you are into fitness and travelling, it might be best to check if your accommodation of choice has such facilities to cater to your daily workout needs. Great job on this article, by the way. Regards!
