GoRuck Class 050
They state that it is a team event and never a race. They talk about this being a guided tour of the city. The 2011 Oklahoma City GoRuck Challenge involved carrying a backpack filled with 4 bricks, food and water. They didn't tell us what we would be doing, how far we would go or how long it will take. They didn't even tell us where to show up until a few days before the Challenge. (OKC Memorial & Museum)
So we started in the parking lot with lots of PT skills. We did countless flutter kicks, push-ups, bear crawls, crab walks, caterpillar walks, burpees, pull-ups and sprints.
Then we did a Bear Crawl through the OKC Memorial. We were already sweating super bad and we had only just begun our journey. We had one guy fall out because his back locked up.
After the Memorial we started on our way through Bricktown. We crawled across the grass in the Botanical gardens and swam through the duck shit filled fountain. Then we found and carried all kinds of really heavy objects. We carried 2 Thor Hammers (100 pound chunk of concrete with a post sticking out of it) all night long. One of these ended up @ NextGeneration CrossFit.
We cooled off in the Bricktown canal and many different fountains.
There were the countless Indian-runs and battle buddy carries(Todd).
1 Concrete curb, 1 railroad tie and 1 telephone pole. All we were doing the whole time was becoming a team. There are no heroes! We needed to work as ONE unit to finish this challenge. At one point the whole team carried a huge 20 foot telephone pole uphill for a block. We did all of these things while carrying a 25lb chunk of granite from the Oklahoma City bombing. Oh, and a 50 pound backpack filled with sand. We came together as a team and made things happen. Sometimes it doesn't matter how physically strong you are, it only matters how you handle things mentally. I'm the type of person that once I commit, that is what I'm going too do, no matter what!
I am GoRuck Tough!
